The Challenge
This Accountancy Services firm was scaling fast but very much in start-up mode with a strong entrepreneurial leader and fairly inexperienced team. The structure, processes and organisational design were not supporting their growth and output was suffering as a result.
The Service
Soutar Solutions was called in to help the business leader review his current organisational structure and processes and to look at a robust 1-2 year people plan to support his vision. We started small, with recruitment and selection training to ensure the team were hiring the right people with the right skills. We then developed a thorough induction programme for all new starters and introduced clearer communication channels between staff and leaders to open communication and to problem-solve more effectively. We reviewed and revised the company appraisal process and introduced both performance related pay and reward programmes, linked to clearly defined values. Success also involved an organisational re-design with some key hiring at a senior level, including clear job roles and accountabilities for all. During this time, Claire became a key partner to the business providing HR consultancy and supporting the business as it grew.
The Result
Now 2 years on, the business is going from strength to strength. Turnover of staff is low. The culture is one of accountability and drive. The business owner is out doing what he loves best and bringing in more and more business and able to pass it back to the internal team without any worries.
